Itinerary
March 3: Arrive Belize City
Welcome to Belize City. There have been no activities planned for today so arrive at anytime. Enjoy a transfer to the hotel and the remainder of the day is at leisure.
March 4-6: Caye Caulker
Welcome to Belize! It's time to slow things down for some serious R & R. Sun, sand, fantastic snorkeling and diving opportunities are now the focus. Enjoy a full-day snorkel trip out to the barrier reef where you may have the chance to swim with nurse sharks, stingrays and barracudas. The last night may be in Belize City or on the island. Should our last night be on Caye Caulker, a transfer by boat back to Belize City is provided.
March 7-10: Belize River Canoeing
Our local crew will expertly guide you on the many twists and turns of the local rivers. Canoe experience is not required, as our guides know the rivers well and are happy to share their knowledge of the local wildlife with you.
March 11-12: San Ignacio
The forest of Mountain Pine Ridge, the Mayan cave of Actun Tunichil Muknal, tubing down a lazy river or visiting local Mayan sites, including the famous Xunantunich, are all options here. Pick your choice and enjoy your stay; did we mention there is also some great food and wildlife?
March 13-15: Flores & Tikal, Guatemala
As you cross the border into Guatemala, you'll immediately notice a different culture, punctuated by a heavy Mayan influence and Spanish language. We make an excursion to San José, on the shores of Lake Petén Itzá, where you have the opportunity to take a Spanish lesson or visit some local conservation and community development projects. The mysterious lost city of Tikal, buried deep in the rainforest, consists of huge, sprawling Mayan ruins. It's a jungle oasis, boasting a dense concentration of wildlife and the some of the highest pyramids of the Mayan Civilization.

Fitness & Mobility
It is very important you are aware that, as a minimum, an 'average level of fitness and mobility' is required to undertake our easiest programs. Passengers must be able to walk without the aid of another person, climb 3-4 flights of stairs, step on and off small boats, and carry their own luggage. Travellers over the age of 70 or travellers with a pre-existing medical condition are required to complete a short medical questionnaire, which must be signed by their physician. This is to ensure that senior travelers have the necessary fitness and mobility to comfortably complete their chosen program. Please note that it is not the local guide's responsibility to help individuals who cannot complete the day's activities unaided.
Safety and Security
Travelers must exercise common sense and caution at all times. Tourists should stick to set travel arrangements and avoid unknown areas. Always keep a photocopy of your passport, airline tickets and a record of your travelers' checks and credit card numbers separate from where you keep the originals.
Inherent Dangers
It is important that you understand that G.A.P Adventures operates adventure tours where the accommodation, transport, safety, hygiene, medical facilities and other factors may not be of the standard that you are accustomed to at home, or would find on a conventional holiday. By booking with G.A.P Adventures you are accepting these conditions.
A Word on Sustainable Travel...
We hope that one of the joys of travelling with the Great Adventure People will be in meeting the local people and travelling to more remote areas. Unfortunately, tourism can radically alter what it was that inspired the industry in the first place. It is for this reason that we as travellers have a responsibility to minimize our impact on the people and environments we enjoy. Through our examples and attitudes we can ensure that our visits have minimal impact on the environment and that we foster positive cultural exchanges between ourselves and our local hosts. Please see the Responsible Travel section of our website for guidelines you can follow to help us in our efforts to conserve the places and cultures we love to visit, and to ensure similar experiences for future travellers. We thank you for your efforts in helping us act responsibly in our travels and hope that these guidelines assist you in having a wonderful trip! Should you require more information on minimizing your impact while travelling, feel free to contact us at adventure@gap.ca The Planeterra Foundation is a non-profit organization that was developed by G.A.P Adventures as a way to give back to the people and places visited on our tours. For more information about the projects that you can help to support please visit www.planeterra.org
